Slow-Sound-Based Delay-Line Acoustic Metamaterial

نویسندگان

چکیده

Periodic structures composed of quarter-wavelength or Helmholtz resonators have been widely used in the design acoustic metamaterials. An interesting phenomenon achievable through hybridization such is slow sound, which results from strong dispersion produced by local resonances. It gives rise to many applications as deep subwavelength sound absorbers metadiffusers. All proposed so far analyzed only frequency domain (steady state). In this work, we propose a passive treatment that can be room acoustics, requires considering time and all multiple reflections. We analytically delay line metasurface made resonators, using slow-sound propagation. prove numerically experimentally pulse thus reproduce perception propagation over given distance, larger than actual size treatment. The limitations real-time propagation, dispersion, losses on audio fidelity are discussed.

Emission Enhancement of Sound Emitters using an Acoustic Metamaterial Cavity

The emission enhancement of sound without electronic components has wide applications in a variety of remote systems, especially when highly miniaturized (smaller than wavelength) structures can be used. The recent advent of acoustic metamaterials has made it possible to realize this. In this study, we propose, design, and demonstrate a new class of acoustic cavity using a double-walled metamat...

Sound Pressure Level Gain in an Acoustic Metamaterial Cavity

The inherent attenuation of a homogeneous viscous medium limits radiation propagation, thereby restricting the use of many high-frequency acoustic devices to only short-range applications. Here, we design and experimentally demonstrate an acoustic metamaterial localization cavity which is used for sound pressure level (SPL) gain using double coiled up space like structures thereby increasing th...

Acoustic transmission line metamaterial with negative/zero/positive refractive index

A one-dimensional acoustic negative refractive index metamaterial based on the transmission line approach is presented. This structure implements the dual transmission line concept extensively investigated in microwave engineering. It consists of an acoustic waveguide periodically loaded with membranes realizing the function of series “capacitances” and transversally connected open channels rea...

Broadband Acoustic Hyperbolic Metamaterial.

In this Letter, we report on the design and experimental characterization of a broadband acoustic hyperbolic metamaterial. The proposed metamaterial consists of multiple arrays of clamped thin plates facing the y direction and is shown to yield opposite signs of effective density in the x and y directions below a certain cutoff frequency, therefore, yielding a hyperbolic dispersion. Partial foc...

Double-negative acoustic metamaterial.

We show here the existence of acoustic metamaterial, in which both the effective density and bulk modulus are simultaneously negative, in the true and strict sense of an effective medium. Our double-negative acoustic system is an acoustic analogue of Veselago's medium in electromagnetism, and shares many unique consequences, such as negative refractive index. The double negativity in acoustics ...
